Jason is currently a student at the College of Creative Arts, West Virginia University in the Doctor of Musical Arts program studying music composition with Dr. Sarana Chou. At W.V.U. Jason is a Teaching Assistant in the Music Technology Department where he is an instructor for Introduction to Recording Technology. Jason has both a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Music Technology with a concentration in Electronic Composition at The Mary Pappert School of Music, Duquesne University. At Duquesne Jason was a Graduate Assistant to Professor William Purse, Chair of Contemporary Music Media and Jazz. As a Graduate Assistant at Duquesne Jason was an Instructor for Computers for Musicians, co-instructor for Music Technology III, and ran the lab for Guitar for Music Therapy. Jason was the first Mary Pappert School of Music Student to earn the Certificate of University Teaching for Duquesne’s Center for Teaching Excellence. At Duquesne Jason studied electronic composition with Professor Lynn Purse and Professor Brian Buckley.
As a composer Jason explores both acoustic and electronic music. Jason’s compositions have been played across the United States and Europe. In 2013 one of Jason’s compositions was included in the 60×60 Surround Sound Mix. This composition represents Jason’s abilities as a composer, sound designer, and an audio engineer all in one piece.
As a bassist Jason has toured the world as a musician in the US Army band program playing in venues from grand concert halls in Europe to tents in the Iraqi desert to morning TV shows in San Antonio, Texas. Jason has played music ranging in styles from standard concert band literature to big band jazz to all forms of popular music on the electric bass guitar, double bass, and even auxiliary percussion. Jason has studied bass with Ed Friedland, Todd Johnson, Dave LaRue, and Douglas Mapp.
